Milford staff trims equipment, awaits impact-fee figures and adds $5,000 water contribution

The Milford City Council met in a special work session on June 3 to review the tentative budget and several potential adjustments.
Staff said the council agreed to remove a planned vehicle (brake) hoist from the budget and to reduce the related reserve transfer. Staff also reported they are waiting on a study from Sunrise that will recommend water and sewer impact-fee amounts; staff estimated the figures could total roughly $5,000–$6,000 but cautioned the precise numbers had not arrived. “I have not received those figures from Sunrise as of this morning,” Staff member said, adding that the city will add the final numbers once the study is delivered.
The mayor requested a separate $5,000 contribution related to Iron County’s planned withdrawal from Wawa Valley; staff said they added the amount to the tentative budget under general ledger code 1043610 but will move it to a labeled line such as “contribution for water” so the charge is transparent. Staff said the line will be adjusted before adoption to make the purpose and accounting clear.
Councilors also discussed a potential state project to replace a culvert between Center and Main, adjacent to a daycare. Staff advised the city could coordinate with the state and consider purchasing culvert material or planning a band-on attachment so the city’s future work ties into the state replacement. Council members estimated a budget cushion between $1,000 and $5,000 to cover materials or small matching contributions if needed and asked staff to get timing and pricing from Scott Goodwin at the state before making a final commitment.
The session produced direction but no final votes on these budget items. Staff will update the tentative budget once the Sunrise impact-fee figures and state cost estimates are available.
