Ross Township trustees on Nov. 19, 2025 adopted a resolution establishing projected expenditures for the fiscal year ending Dec. 31, 2026, and approved two procedural motions affecting payroll and the January meeting schedule.
Fiscal officer Julie Smith told trustees the board had adopted a temporary budget in July and received an original certificate from the Butler County Budget Commission to start the year. She said the township has amended its 2026 revenue budget and appropriations with the county auditor and will adopt final appropriations before April 1 after closing the 2025 books and holding budget hearings in November. "We will then in turn adopt a final appropriations before April 1st," Smith said.
The board moved to adopt Resolution 2025-078, described in the meeting as the document that "provides projected expenditures during the fiscal year ending in December 31st, 2026." The resolution was adopted on a unanimous roll call.
Trustees also approved motion 25-144 to change the last payroll payment date for 2025 from the regularly scheduled Friday, Jan. 2, 2026 to Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025. Smith explained the change would prevent payroll from straddling two calendar years and keep accounting records cleaner. "Pay them on the 31st of December," she said, adding that the change keeps the accounting "nice and neat and buttoned up in one calendar year." The motion passed on a unanimous roll call.
Separately, the board approved motion 25-145 to reschedule the January regular meeting from Jan. 1, 2026 to Monday, Jan. 5, 2026; that motion also passed unanimously.
Board minutes and the fiscal officer's presentation indicate the temporary appropriations will be the starting point for 2026 and that a final appropriations ordinance will follow after the audit and November hearings. The board set its next regular meeting for Jan. 5, 2026.
