The Otsego Parks and Recreation Commission on Feb. 17 voted unanimously to recommend that the City Council approve planning proposals for Prairie Park Phase 1 totaling $357,500.
Parks and Recreation Director Nick Jacobs presented a memo that reviewed the history of the Prairie Park Master Plan and identified revisions packaged as Prairie Park Phase 1. Jacobs outlined a tentative planning timeline and proposed a communication plan intended to guide the project as it moves forward.
Commissioners stressed that communication with the community will be critical. Commissioner Angie Dehn and other commissioners said the commission should be proactive in identifying which populations will be affected by proposed improvements and in clearly communicating anticipated maintenance costs and long-term sustainability implications. Commissioners also noted that Prairie Park remains heavily used by the community.
Commissioner Joe Tyberghein moved "to recommend to the City Council to approve HKGi and the HAA planning proposals for Prairie Park Phase 1 in the combined amount of $357,500." Commissioner Angie Dehn seconded; the motion carried with all commissioners present voting in favor.
The commission did not record amendments or conditions tied to the recommendation in the minutes. The recommendation will be transmitted to the City Council for its consideration at a future meeting.
