Resident urges drain reinstatement at 800 N Main after asphalt deterioration; public works recommends drainage fix

During the public comment portion of the May 19 Lewiston City Council meeting, resident Nancy Pitcher described deteriorating pavement and a potentially affected water valve at the corner of 800 N Main and proposed reinstalling a drain that previously existed on the property.
Assistant Public Works Director Brennan Hyer responded that heavy traffic cutting the corner has already broken up recently placed asphalt and that Public Works would like to excavate a drain to move water west away from the valve and roadway. Council members agreed that reinstalling a drain would likely help address the issue, and staff indicated they would pursue the work.
The concern was raised as part of resident input; no formal motion or funding decision for the repair was made at the meeting.
