City Secretary Bianca Espinoza issued Certificates of Election to Sergio Navarro (District 1), Gloria Hernandez (District 2), Dewayne Espinosa (District 3) and Chad Okamoto (District 4), and then administered the Statement of Elected Officer and the Oath of Office for the 2026–2028 term. Mayor Scott Sheffy opened the meeting at 6:29 p.m.
The nomination for mayor pro‑tem came from Council member John Nino and was seconded by Council member Dewayne Espinosa; the council voted unanimously to appoint Steve Buckley to the post, a routine action taken under City Charter, Article III, Sec. 3.05. Council member Chad Okamoto moved to approve the minutes of the April 20 regular meeting, a motion seconded by Council member Sam Cavazos and approved unanimously. There were no public comments during the meeting's public‑comment period.
The council also approved an appointment to the Dimmitt Board of Adjustment (Susie Bradford, term expires 05/2027) by a unanimous vote. Mayor Sheffy adjourned the meeting at 7:41 p.m.
The actions were procedural and ceremonial; the next scheduled meeting will carry remaining business and any grant‑related resolutions that staff brings forward.
