Alma council reviews three competitive bids for auditorium roof; decision moved to next agenda

Council members heard detailed presentations Oct. 16 from three roofing contractors on proposed overlay systems for the Alma auditorium roof.

Adam and Jesse of Spartan Roofing proposed an overlay using 1/2-inch fiberboard and a fully adhered 60-mil TPO membrane, offering a 20-year NDL warranty and a three-year workmanship warranty; they said hail board or a complete tear-off were available at additional cost and estimated a spring start date. Mike Walmsley of Midwest Roofing recommended a Duralast 50-mil membrane over a 1/2-inch insulated recovery board, including drip edge and a wall metal cap; he emphasized a Class 4 hail resistance rating, reflective and energy-efficient properties, and a warranty structure that covers parts and labor for 15 years with material-only coverage extending to 20 years. Ricky of Tillotson Roofing described a multi-coat overlay approach—washing, priming, base coats, fabric reinforcement and a topcoat—stating a 12-year warranty with a 20-year expected service life and noting minimal added weight; he also offered an optional urethane base at increased cost for fall or winter starts.

No formal award or vote took place; Mayor Hal Haeker said the roof-bid items will be placed on the council’s next agenda for further discussion and possible selection. The presentations focused on comparative durability, warranty terms and start-date options rather than final pricing or contract language, which the council deferred for later review.
