The Alma City Council on Sept. 4 opened and closed a public hearing on the city’s One‑ and Six‑Year Street Improvement Plan and approved Resolution 07‑2024 adopting the plan.
Bernie Straetker of Miller and Associates presented the plan during the public hearing, explaining that the city received $165,076.10 in state-allocated funds for the current year and is estimated to receive $188,346.00 for the next fiscal year. Straetker highlighted proposed work including a Seventh Street extension and repaving of James Street, and explained that colored marks on the plan’s map indicate proposed segments and smaller curb or section repairs. He emphasized the plan is a flexible planning document that can be amended but that any changes require another public hearing.
Following the presentation and public hearing (opened at 6:02 p.m. and closed at 6:09 p.m.), Councilmember Chris Tripe moved to approve Resolution 07‑2024; Councilmember Larry Casper seconded the motion. The roll call vote recorded yes: Collins, Casper, Tripe. Motion carried.
The adopted plan provides a prioritized framework for street repairs and extensions tied to available funding; the council noted implementation will depend on annual budget decisions and the availability of state allocations.
