Alma council approves $103,953.57 in claims, library pay raises and 18‑month CD renewals

The Alma City Council on July 1 approved routine fiscal and personnel actions including payment of $103,953.57 in claims and invoices, acceptance of the treasurer’s report, salary adjustments for library staff and an 18-month certificate of deposit renewal at Banner Capital Bank.
The council voted to pay $103,953.57 in outstanding claims for June 18 through July 1 after a motion by Councilmember Tom Moulton and a second by Councilmember Dyann Collins. The treasurer’s report was accepted after a motion by Moulton and a second by Councilmember Chris Tripe.
Library Administrator Keri Anderson received a 3.5% cost-of-living pay increase and library aides were approved for a $0.50-per-hour raise. Councilmember Larry Casper moved to approve the pay adjustments and Chris Tripe seconded; the motion passed with yes votes from Tripe, Collins, Moulton and Casper.
On banking, Treasurer Tashia Butterfield said the city holds three CDs at Banner Capital Bank currently yielding about 4.0%. Butterfield presented options including a 12-month CD at 5.0% and an 18-month CD at 4.65%. Councilmember Chris Tripe moved and Tom Moulton seconded to renew the CDs for 18 months at 4.65%; the motion passed with Tripe, Collins, Moulton and Casper voting yes.
On a personnel/operations item, Courtney Stottler, speaking for pool management, requested that pool managers be paid $20.00 per hour to perform cleaning of the pool deck and bath house so lifeguards would not have to perform those duties. A motion by Tripe, seconded by Collins, to approve the cleaning arrangement passed with Tripe, Collins and Casper voting yes and Moulton voting no.
