The Georgetown Solid Waste Management Committee on May 8 reviewed its Year-to-Date financials, approved payment for recent compactor maintenance and noted a sharp increase in household hazardous waste (HHW) disposal over the past two years.
Committee members examined the YTD statement ending April 30, 2025, and recorded $68,518.83 spent on the solid waste disposal line item, representing 60% of that budget line. The committee acknowledged an Atlantic Recycling Equipment invoice for compactor maintenance in the amount of $1,757.40; members approved payment and Alison Freeman will notify Financial Director Mary McDonald that payment is approved. Jim Coombs, Transfer Station manager, said the compactor received a “good bill of health.”
The committee reviewed results of the May 3 HHW collection: Georgetown residents disposed of 150 units and 13 registered residents did not attend. Alison Freeman shared historical HHW amounts showing a large increase in the last two years; the minutes do not quantify the earlier years’ totals beyond noting the upward trend.
On operations, members discussed routine summer preparations at the Transfer Station: pickups of metals, e-waste and returnables cleared space for seasonal activity. Karren Cowing asked whether pothole repairs scheduled this fiscal year remain planned; Dave Polito said he will contact Dale Savoie about timing. The committee also noted a new substitute Transfer Station employee.
The meeting included routine business—approval of minutes, scheduling the next meeting for June 12, 2025 at 7:00 p.m., and an adjournment motion that passed unanimously. There was no public comment recorded.
