The Navajo County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously on Aug. 13 to adopt fiscal 2024-25 property tax rates for the county and all taxing districts, and separately approved the levies for the county's school districts.
Administrative services staff told the board the proposed rates cover a broad set of taxing entities, including the county, flood control, fire, road and sanitary districts, cities and towns, and community college districts, and said each rate had been approved through the respective budgeting processes and local governing boards. "These rates have been approved through their budgeting process and through their respective boards," the presenter said.
The superintendent of schools then presented the school-district rates and levies for 2025, which the board likewise adopted unanimously. The superintendent said the rates had already been approved by the local school governing boards and offered to answer questions.
Board members asked no substantive questions during the two presentations and moved immediately to adopt the rates. One supervisor said the adoption process was routine and thanked staff for preparing the packet; another moved approval and the board approved both the countywide rates and the school levies without dissent.
Why it matters: The tax-rate and levy adoptions set the legal levies for the year and finalize county and district revenue expectations tied to property values and local budgets. Board adoption also clears the way for administrative processing of tax rolls and collections for fiscal 2025.
What happens next: With rates adopted, county staff will finalize levy amounts for billing and continue collection work according to state law and local procedures.
