District details athletic-field repairs, playground fixes and pest control

For pest control, the district contracted a firm identified in the record as "Orcin" for prairie-dog abatement. The contractor visited three times in the previous month; the contract was described as a heavy initial treatment followed by monthly visits.
On playgrounds, staff installed wood chips at the older south-side middle-school playground to address muddy conditions that were tracking into the building. The presenter noted the new playground installed last fall uses shredded rubber underlay and the older playground required the chips.
Safety work includes preparation for a fire reinspection scheduled for March 23–24. The facilities presenter also discussed a short CTE/kitchen project being scoped with local contractors and participants identified as Sean and Todd Stevens; the presenter said the shell of the planned CTE building does not include a full commercial kitchen but the smaller project could add additional implements where space permits. A district staffer (Mr. Long) noted storage shortages in the affected areas.
Board members asked about slope work and long-term landscaping options; staff said they used an industrial rake on the new tractor to flatten old prairie-dog mounds and will treat slopes for weeds and consider long-term, low-water landscaping options such as native prairie grass maintained with periodic brush-hogging.
