Board members reviewed four letters of interest for the vacancy — from Nathan Jordan, Raider Rhotenacher, Hunter Long and Chris Julifs — and dismissed the three other applicants by unanimous votes before approving Julifs’ letter of interest. The board’s clerk recorded the actions in the minutes.
The minutes appended email correspondence from Cass County Attorney Christopher Perrone that addresses the length of an appointment. In a message included in the meeting record, Perrone wrote that “Chris should be considered appointed to serve the remainder of Devin’s term,” and explained how an appointed trustee could later vacate an appointed seat if elected to a different term. The board’s meeting minutes indicate that Julifs subsequently took the oath of office.
The board indicated it will re-vote on chair and vice-chair positions once it has a full complement of members; the minutes note that Cathina Schueth presently serves as Vice Chairperson. The board set its next regular meeting for 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 10, 2024, at Village of Alvo Hall.
