The Navajo County Board of Supervisors unanimously authorized county participation in the Arizona portion of a proposed $68.5 million settlement with Kroger Co. in the national multidistrict opioid litigation.
Jason Moore of the county attorney’s office summarized terms and recommended approval, saying the plaintiff executive committee recommended the settlement and that, under the county’s previously approved allocation plan, Navajo County would receive about 1.535% of Arizona’s share. "Under the terms of the proposed settlement, the state of Arizona would receive about $68.5 million from Kroger," Moore said, adding that approximately 1.535% of that amount would flow to Navajo County under the 1 Arizona allocation method.
Moore asked the board for permission to act as the county’s representative for preparing and submitting the online participation form. A motion to approve the settlement participation and to authorize Moore to execute the necessary documentation was made, seconded and carried unanimously.
What happens next: County staff will complete participation paperwork so Navajo County can receive its allocation once the multi-state settlement is finalized.
