Parks staff said the proposed footprint is about 30 by 28 feet and that the committee recommends a roughly 50‑foot barrier on the Union Street side to keep toddlers from reaching the street, accomplished by either low fencing or decorative granite boulders. Staff emphasized that the play space would be low‑profile, separate from the larger playground planned for City Park, and intended to avoid interference with major events on the Common.
"We're looking at a 2 through 5 year old play space," the parks presenter said, outlining site selection, donor interest and preliminary quotes. Councilors asked that the committee reach out to immediate neighbors, consider accessibility features and clarify maintenance responsibilities; staff said the committee will return with fundraising quotes and a plan for post‑installation upkeep.
Council approved the play‑space proposal 5–0 and anticipates that installation would occur in early 2026 if fundraising goals are met.
