Residents report potholes and sewage problems; Alvo fixes pressure drop traced to well's VFD

Residents told the Village of Alvo trustees July 2 that potholes on Fletcher Avenue are worsening and that sewage had been gurgling inside at least one rental property.

Citizen Keith Hinkel raised the road and sewage concerns; Vice Chair Cathina Schueth advised that residents must have a plumber inspect private lines and provide the village with the plumber's findings. If that follow-up shows the issue is on village property, the village will send a second plumber and, if confirmed, address the problem.

Clerk and trustees noted that Nathan Jordan previously filed a sewage-backup complaint that had been forwarded to the village's EPA-assigned technical assistance. Trustee Roger Paul said a separate report he reviewed appeared to show the problem was not on the village side.

On water operations, the village reported water tests without coliform or E. coli and said PeopleService responded to a pressure drop reported June 21. PeopleService found the well's variable-frequency drive (VFD) had tripped and restored service June 22. The board said several meter pits must be raised before those meters can be replaced; Nebraska Diggers is preparing a bid and the village must hire a contractor to perform pit work before meter replacement.

The report did not indicate any confirmed, village-owned sewer-line failures to date; repairs will follow the plumber-village verification process described at the meeting.

The board did not take additional action at the meeting beyond accepting the reports and noting the contractor bid process for meter-pit work.
