The Patrick County School Board on June 15 announced a proposed interim appointment to fill a vacancy in the Peters Creek District, saying Mr. Jerry Woods of the Peters Creek District is the candidate and that the board will vote on the interim appointment on Tuesday, June 23, 2026. The notice cited Virginia Code sections 24.2-226 and 24.2-228, which require a public hearing at least seven days before an appointment is made.
The board chair called the special meeting to order and led the opening ceremonies, including the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence. The chair stated that three board members were present. Board materials made Mr. Woods’s resume available for public review at the meeting.
Miss Collins was asked whether any members of the public had signed up to speak on the vacancy; she responded that no one had registered, and the chair closed the public hearing. After the announcement, a board member moved to adjourn, another seconded, the chair called for a voice vote and members indicated approval; the meeting then adjourned.
The board did not take the interim appointment vote at this session; the formal vote on the proposed appointment is scheduled for June 23, 2026. No public testimony was recorded during the June 15 meeting.
