Allamakee supervisors approve 3% pay increases for elected officials; add stipends

The Allamakee County Board of Supervisors voted April 20 to approve salary adjustments for elected officials for the fiscal year starting July 1, 2026, modifying the county Compensation Board’s recommendations.

By motion (26.157) the board voted to decrease the Compensation Board’s recommended increases and instead approved a 3% salary increase for most elected officials. The board also approved a $6,000 stipend for the Auditor for extra duties and a $2,000 stipend for the Chair. The signed resolution lists approved FY27 amounts, including an Auditor salary of $73,020 plus a $6,000 stipend and Supervisors at $32,061 with the $2,000 Chair stipend attached.

The resolution text cites the annual meeting of the Allamakee County Compensation Board and references Iowa Code Chapters 331.905 and 331.907 in describing the recommendation process. The action was taken by motion (Byrnes/Keatley) and recorded by roll call as Keatley-aye, Byrnes-aye, Clark-aye.

Later in the meeting (motion 26.158) the board approved a separate set of wage adjustments for non-elected department heads and non-union employees: a 3% increase with listed exceptions. The exceptions included an additional 2% adjustment to Treasurer deputies’ pay and specified increases for individual employees named in the minutes (for example, increases to specified Recorder deputies’ percentages and an approved 5% increase for the Environmental Health Director and Weed Commissioner). Those staff-level adjustments were approved as part of the FY27 personnel and wage actions.

Both the elected-officials resolution and the staff wage actions were adopted as formal board actions and are recorded in the meeting minutes.
