Selectpersons appoint registrar, approve warrants and hear departmental reports

The Selectpersons conducted routine town business on Jan. 15, 2025, approving minutes, appointing the town registrar, selecting a town report cover and approving several payables and payroll warrants.
Jack Bridges moved — and Adam Foster seconded — approval of the Jan. 2, 2025 minutes as submitted but excluding the fee structure; the board recorded that the Planning Board will return the fee structure to the Selectpersons at a later date. Adam Foster moved — and Bill Birdsall seconded — approval of the Dec. 12, 2024 executive session minutes as written. Both motions passed 4-0.
Tonja L. Long was appointed Registrar of Voters by motion of Jack Bridges, seconded by Adam Foster; the motion passed 4-0. The board selected photo #1 for the town report cover (motion by Bill Birdsall, seconded by Jack Bridges; passed 4-0) and approved assessor supplements and abatements (motion by Adam Foster, seconded by Bill Birdsall; passed 4-0).
The board approved 2024/25 Payables Warrant #63 for $38,695.61 (motion by Bill Birdsall, second by Adam Foster; passed 4-0) and Warrant #64 to the Hancock Volunteer Fire Department for $1,412.05 (motion by Adam Foster, second by Sean Jones; passed 4-0). On payroll, the board approved Warrant #62 for $5,936.05 and Warrant #65 for $4,733.55 (both motions moved by Adam Foster and seconded by Bill Birdsall; both passed 4-0).
Fire Chief Chris Holmes reported that bid notices are available for the new firehouse and discussed a new firetruck. Road Commissioner George Moon described cutting a tree near the town office parking lot with Nick Branca and said a letter needs to be drafted about plowing snow across the road; George and Town Clerk Tonja L. Long will draft the letter and attach the relevant Maine statute. Planning Board Chair Doug Kimmel discussed forthcoming ordinance revisions and policy changes; Selectperson Cheryl Robinson reminded the group that any LD2003 amendments to the ECO must be sent to the state.
The board reviewed incoming mail, including historic-preservation materials from Crosby Lodge, a DOT highway rehabilitation notice for Main Street/Washington Jct Road, and a sheriff’s department report. The meeting adjourned at 7:49 p.m.
