Trenton council approves 48-on/96-off fire schedule; routine budgets and event permit pass

Alderman Graves moved and Alderman Harper seconded approval of the April 28 meeting minutes; the motion carried by voice vote. City Recorder Danielle Dixon then reported monthly expenditures and Alderman Wade moved to approve them; Alderman Harper seconded. The council approved expenditures with the General Fund totaling $185,448.35 and Sanitation $63,938.90.
The council considered a motion by Alderman Graves, seconded by Alderman Harper, to change the Fire Department schedule from 24-on/48-off to 48-on/96-off starting June 1. After discussion, council members approved the change by voice vote. Councilmembers noted the schedule will be reviewed after six months and may revert to the previous arrangement if it proves impractical.
Separately, Haywood Elam requested permission to use the city lot across from the post office for a free community get-together on Saturday, May 30 from 1 to 3 p.m. Alderman Wade moved to grant the request; Alderwoman Jones seconded and the motion carried by voice vote.
The meeting adjourned at 6:48 p.m. with Mayor Burriss and City Recorder Danielle Dixon signing the record.
