Selectmen consider five-year invasive-plant plan for Hilton O'Connor property, hear dock-repair estimate plans

Ann Nesslage of the Bremen Conservation Committee presented a proposed five-year invasive-plant management plan for the Hilton O'Connor property that included two cost tracks: treatments using herbicide and approaches that avoid herbicide. Nesslage said cost estimates are being prepared to show the difference between the two approaches.
Selectman John "Boe" Marsh asked for more technical detail from Bob Barkalow about the treatment process; Nesslage and the board emphasized that residents should be included in decisions about whether herbicide would be used. Town Clerk Melanie Pendleton recommended an informational meeting at the Town Center with notice on the town website and email to the community list to gather resident input.
Separately, officials reported that an estimating process is under way for repairs and stabilization at the Town Landing dock. The board said a future meeting will include Harbor Master Melanee Gilbert to review suggested design changes and repairs; a sketch of recommended pilings and cross bracing is being prepared for cost estimates.
The board approved routine business and scheduled follow-up meetings for the harbor repairs and public information on the invasive-plant plan.
