Council appoints Kim Nixon and Chris Frost to Planning Commission

The Tehachapi City Council on an evening vote appointed Kim Nixon and Chris Frost to two open seats on the city’s Planning Commission.

Kim Nixon, who spoke to the council during the meeting, described her prior service and leadership on the commission and said she would welcome another four-year term. "It's an honor to apply to serve on the Planning Commission again for another four-year term," Nixon said, citing past service that included chairing the commission and handling contentious public hearings.

City Clerk Whitmore told the council the two posts were open because terms for commissioners Kim Nixon and Linda Hollinssworth had expired and the city had received two applications. The council accepted nominations and then voted on each candidate. Council Member Smith recorded a "yes" vote for Nixon; the mayor also voted "yes." For Chris Frost, Council Member Gutierrez, Council Member Smith and the mayor recorded "yes" votes.

The appointments fill existing vacancies on the Planning Commission and restore the commission's full complement of members. Nixon was present and spoke briefly; Frost was nominated in his absence. The council did not discuss substantive changes to the commission’s duties during the appointment action.

The council moved promptly from the appointments into the next agenda item; no additional procedural steps were announced before the meeting adjourned to closed session.
