A public commenter at the Shellfish Committee meeting on May 21 said a March 19 shellfish grant lottery posting was in error and urged the panel to apply current grant rules to the waitlist.
"So I'm number 1 on the waiting list. Lottery was done on March 19," the commenter said, adding that the grant holder is entitled to 30 days to move equipment and that an open grant should then be awarded to the first person on the waitlist.
Another attendee responded: "It was posted in error, so it shouldn't be binding." Committee members agreed the issue is beyond the committee's final authority and said the town council will need to make a determination.
The committee did not take a formal vote on the dispute. Members noted that because the matter involves grant award rules and a prior posting, it will be decided by the town council rather than the committee.
The meeting record shows no further procedural action on the lottery at this meeting; public commenters and committee members discussed next steps and agreed to await the council's decision.
