Commission issues determinations for proposed deck at 26 Bassford Lane

Wayne Tavares of Wet Tech Land Design told the Dennis Conservation Commission that the proposed 420-square-foot project at 26 Bassford Lane fills an existing gap between two building sections with an open deck, a covered deck and a covered entry and that the work is sited largely outside the 50-foot buffer to the wetland.
The project proponent offered adjacent plantings of sensitive fern as mitigation after consultation with staff, and the consultant said the project mostly occupies previously disturbed area from the home's original construction. After brief public comment and no objections, commissioners moved first to close the hearing and then to vote on determinations. Commissioner motioning language described issuing a ‘positive 5’ determination as the area and works shown were subject to review and approval by the town bylaws, and the body subsequently voted to issue a ‘negative 3’ determination finding the described work is within the buffer zone but will not alter the resource area.
The commission asked staff to draft the order for the next meeting; there were no conditions raised by members beyond the agreed mitigation planting. The motions carried on voice votes.
