The Mineral Springs School Board voted 4-1 on Aug. 26 to open Zone 4, beginning the vacancy process for the seat held by Mike Erwin after applying the district's medical/military absence policy, President William Dixon said.
Board Secretary Barnado Thomas moved to open the zone and Xavier Vaughn seconded; the motion carried with Ray Hawkins the sole dissenting vote. President Dixon told the board that, under the cited ASBA board policy, the district must publish the vacancy for 30 days and has 90 days to fill the seat.
The vote came after the board established a quorum; Ricky Gamble and Mike Erwin were noted as absent from the meeting. The action does not itself appoint a replacement; it initiates the public-notice and vacancy-filling process that the board outlined.
President Dixon subsequently turned the remainder of the meeting over to Superintendent Amerson for staff reports.
