Residents press River Ridge board on Pinehurst drainage; engineer to inspect, $10,692.88 inlet estimate held for future action

Residents raised persistent drainage concerns during public comment at the River Ridge Community Development District meeting July 23.
Resident Shari Perkins told the Board that about a week after a pipe was plugged, water continued to overflow in the Pinehurst triangle monument area and that another resident had reported a nearby retention pond between River 8 and River 9 that appears nonfunctional and is ponding nearly 1 foot above the drain. Perkins said she has photographs and agreed to provide video footage of water accumulating over the drain to district staff.
District Engineer John Baker explained that plugging the inlet stopped water from one system ‘‘pushing’’ into a lower system, but that the inlet now leaves water with no outlet and behaves like ‘‘a very tiny pond in a pipe.’’ He said resolving the situation will likely require additional study and asked for photographic or video evidence of observed flooding to assist staff in diagnosing the issue. The Board directed the District Engineer to view the drainage firsthand.
District Manager Chuck Adams presented Estimate #C060‑24 from MRI Construction, Inc. in the amount of $10,692.88 for an inlet‑top replacement intended to keep debris from blocking the structure. Mr. Adams noted staff is seeking an additional proposal; the Board left the estimate on the agenda for later action.
A resident, Ed Nowak, asked where the northern outflow of Pinehurst Greens Drive discharges; Mr. Adams said the pipes ultimately flow into the Estero River via ditches that cross the golf course and reach the River Club.
