Arnold selects new Carroll Street Courts sign, secures grants and schedules further bids; Tree Board proclamation set for Arbor Day

The Village Board selected Taylor Hanna-Miles’ design for a sign at Carroll Street Courts and received updates on park and tree-board activities at its April 14 meeting.
Mary Becker reported Arnold received a $12,000 grant from the Arnold Community Foundation and a $2,000 grant from SORC to help fund a new basketball, pickleball and tennis court at Carroll Street Courts. Becker said additional grant submissions are pending with Mid-Nebraska Community Foundation and the Custer County Foundation and the Village will be notified in May or June if those requests are awarded. The Board approved Taylor Hanna-Miles' sign design on a 4–1 vote, with Jason Jenkins opposed, and asked Becker to obtain another concrete/labor bid for the May 12 agenda.
Becker also reported that the National Arbor Day Foundation recognized Arnold as a Tree City USA for 2024 and the Tree Board plans an Arbor Day celebration with Arnold Public School on April 25, 2025; the Board adopted a proclamation designating April 25 as Arbor Day in Arnold. For Arnold Lake Becker described campsite-numbering map work and display updates; the board discussed aquatic vegetation and Chairman Hagler said he will contact the Game and Parks Commission at Victoria Springs for information.
The board deferred a $22,197.73 estimate from Sargent Drilling Company for local well repairs pending annual efficiency tests the company will conduct this month; the item will return to the May 12 agenda after test results are available.
The Village Clerk also noted ongoing maintenance and equipment updates in her monthly update.
