Game and Parks plans vegetation survey at Arnold Lake; Clerk announces NDEE permit and June hearing

Chairman Zach Hagler read an email the board received from Brad Eifert, South Central District Manager for the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission (NGPC). Eifert wrote that, following boundary changes, the Kearney office now has fisheries management authority for Arnold City Lake and that NGPC aquatic vegetation specialist Kristopher Stahr plans to conduct a vegetation survey at Arnold Lake in late May or June to determine species and develop a treatment plan addressing duckweed and other submergent plants.
The NGPC message stated the agency has used aquatic herbicides and grass carp at other sites with mixed results and that high phosphorus can make control difficult. NGPC said it will contact the village to schedule the vegetation survey.
In other updates, Village Clerk Patricia Lamberty told the Board that the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy (NDEE) issued the Village a permit to operate a Construction & Demolition (C&D) Waste Disposal Area effective July 16, 2025, expiring July 15, 2030. Lamberty also announced a public hearing set for June 9 on Reed’s Food Center’s application for a Class D liquor license and noted that monthly water and wastewater samples must be transported to McCook within 24 hours for lab processing. The Clerk reported staffed installation of pool steps and that the pool would be filled that week.
NGPC’s planned survey and the new NDEE permit create next steps for village staff: NGPC follow-up on lake treatment and the Clerk’s handling of permit logistics and the upcoming public hearing.
