Arnold economic-development director outlines downtown promotions, campsite plans and seeks NAHTF housing collaboration

Cheryl Carson, Economic Development Director for the Arnold Economic Development Corporation (AEDC), presented a suite of tourism and downtown initiatives at the April 14 board meeting, then asked the Village Board to collaborate on a housing funding application.
Carson said AEDC will provide downtown flower-barrel planting coupons beginning May 1 to assist businesses with spring and summer beautification; the program had previously been facilitated by the Arnold Chamber. She described a Self-Guided Historical Tour tied to the Custer County Chief 2025 feature and said brochures and a new Historical page on the village website will be available by May 1. Carson also described banner designs for light poles in the downtown business district, highway corridors and City Park, with themes ranging from seasonal and holiday imagery to historical Walnut Street graphics and event-specific banners (for SORC and Devils Den Rally).
On parks and tourism, Carson said she is preparing a campsite-numbering map for Arnold Lake to be posted at the check-in station and will update display cases; historical-tour brochures will be left at the park for the summer season. Carson described routine website, Facebook and advertising efforts and said AEDC coordinates with local chambers and county tourism groups.
Carson requested the Board’s consideration to collaborate with the Custer County Economic Development Corporation to apply for Nebraska Affordable Housing Trust Fund (NAHTF) funding to build a new home on AEDC’s lot at 702 N. Broadway. After discussion the Board voted to collaborate with Custer County EDC on the NAHTF application; the motion passed by unanimous roll call.
The Board also approved $6,136.04 in claims presented from the Economic Development Fund covering reimbursements, advertising and website expenses.
Carson closed by noting ongoing coordination with county tourism and business groups; the board will receive updates and the Clerk will process related claims and administrative steps.
