Dr. Clark, in his first week as superintendent, told the Schuylkill Valley School District board the immediate focus is listening to stakeholders and preparing staff before making major changes. “Learning has to precede change,” he said, describing meetings with administrators, parents and the campus climate committee to gather perspective.
Dr. Clark said the administration is prioritizing recruitment for key openings, including the director of people services and other human resources roles created by recent departures. He also confirmed a summer professional learning rollout for MTSS (multi-tiered system of supports) for building administrators and teachers.
Administrators told the board they will recommend a district agreement with Renaissance’s FastBridge assessment suite to standardize screening, benchmarking and progress monitoring K–12. According to Dr. Clark and Mrs. Rexroad, FastBridge will allow the district to use the same assessments for both regular and special education progress monitoring, creating consistent data across grades and programs.
“FastBridge will be the screener, the progress monitoring, the benchmarking — everything teachers have been asking for,” a staff member said during the curriculum and technology discussion, noting the suite also includes social-emotional measures linked to MTSS.
The superintendent also flagged work on a non‑certified employee compensation plan intended to improve recruitment and retention of support staff and paraprofessionals; the draft plan is being refined in committee and expected to return to the full board soon.
Dr. Clark said he plans formal community introductions in the coming week and will hold both digital and in‑person feedback sessions in July to solicit input as the district moves forward.
