Apex board reports Prismatic Cyclone installation, sets People's Choice process and master plan survey deadline

Taylor, the town liaison, told the Apex Culture and Arts Advisory Board on June 15 that the kinetic sculpture "Prismatic Cyclone" is installed at Pleasant Park between the nature playground and the splash pad and will be included in a brief presentation and video at the June 23 town council meeting.

Taylor also reported on the sculpture walk and the People's Choice process: board members will each rank the 11 new sculptures (part one), and three designated members — Susan, Tom and Daryl — will be the final selectors who review the aggregated rankings. Taylor asked board members to visit each sculpture in person and submit ranked votes by mid next week; the AutoCast app lists the sculptures for reference.

On murals, Taylor said two projects will proceed this year: a mural wrapping the 360‑degree yellow amphitheater building at the U nature park and a 100+‑foot retaining‑wall mural at the downtown parking lot; designs will begin after contracts are finalized and painting is scheduled for the fall.

Regarding the public art master plan, Taylor said executive interviews with town directors and stakeholders are being scheduled for late July and that the public survey has 111 responses so far and closes on July 10. Taylor asked board members to continue circulating the survey and noted the consultants live in Florida and will be in town for two days of group interviews and tours.

Public commenter Daniel Buck praised the value of in‑person gatherings around art, suggested hosting watch parties at Sweetwater Commons for events such as the World Cup, and said community events have cultural, social and economic impacts.

The board asked staff to finalize timelines for the People's Choice selection and to keep members informed of mural contract progress.
