Arnold sets Community Clean Up month, outlines nuisance abatement process

The Village of Arnold Board designated April as Community Clean Up month and set plans to assist residents with property cleanup.
The Clerk reported the 2025 nuisance abatement application cycle with the West Central Nebraska Development District is closed and that the 2026 cycle opens in October. The Board outlined a nuisance-abatement plan: code officers and a board member will compile a list of properties allegedly in violation of Arnold Municipal Code §§4-302 (nuisances) and 6-304 (offenses); at least one employee and one board member will talk with property owners to encourage voluntary cleanup; owners will have until April 15 to voluntarily clean up property; after April 15, if the Board of Health determines the property remains a public nuisance, a Notice to Abate and remove the nuisance will be issued.
The Board designated Monday, April 28, 2025 (storm date May 5) as Community Clean Up Day, arranged volunteer assistance and an Arnold Legion-provided meal, approved refreshments for volunteers, and agreed to provide a roll-off container free to residents from March 15 through May 15. The Board also discussed revisions to a Help Wanted ad and residency requirements for employees.
Public comments during the meeting raised neighborhood parking suggestions near the school, concerns about dogs running loose, snow removal routing in the business district, and praise for improvements at the Arnold Recreation Area.
