Emery County commission begins deed process for All Abilities Park in Castle Dale

The Emery County Commission voted Aug. 5 to begin the legal process to deed county-owned land to Castle Dale so the city can develop an All Abilities Park adjacent to the Emery County Aquatic Center.
"We've got about half the money right now, maybe a little more," the mayor said during discussion, describing bids received for lighting and security and noting strong local-business support for the project. The mayor said community fundraisers and mineral lease dollars will supplement county contributions and earlier COVID-era funding.
Commissioner (S5) moved to begin the deed process and asked staff to obtain the correct legal descriptions and measurements; Commissioner (S4) seconded the motion. The commission called the vote and recorded commissioners Warwood, Leonard and Jensen as voting "Aye." The motion passed.
County leaders discussed site placement near the aquatic center and parking-lot boundaries and compared the plan to existing all-abilities parks elsewhere in Utah, including Spanish Fork and St. George. Officials emphasized that once the city takes ownership it will manage and maintain the park.
The mayor also said nearby efforts include coordinating with a private organization that operates an "all abilities" bus for regional programming and that the project could grow over time as additional sponsorships and grants are secured.
Next steps: staff will prepare deed descriptions and related paperwork to transfer the parcel to Castle Dale for park development; the commission’s action was a procedural authorization to begin that work rather than a final conveyance.
