Ashland council approves routine claims, recommends special liquor license and accepts staff resignation

The Ashland City Council on Jan. 5 approved its consent agenda, including JEO Consulting Group pay requests across multiple projects and the second half of the December 2025 claims, by unanimous roll call.
City Clerk Kristina Stoki told the council that Police Chief Brady had approved a Special Designated Liquor License application for the Nebraska Hop Growers Association to hold an event at Ashland Brewing Company on March 21, 2026, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.; the council voted to send a recommendation in support of the license to the Nebraska Liquor Control Commission.
Caleb Fjone notified the council of his resignation effective Jan. 31, 2026; Fjone said he will take a position with Beatrice's economic and community development organization and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve Ashland. Council Member Michelle Libal praised Fjone’s grant work and said the city is well positioned going forward.
Mayor James Anderson also noted a new drop box for utility bills available to residents. The council adjourned at 7:02 p.m.
