Committee discusses climate control in museum room and several building repairs

At the Feb. 10 meeting of the Mallett Hall Building and Grounds committee, Craig Dietrich, representing the Pownal Historical Society, raised concerns about a "climate problem" in the room used as the museum and said he has already spoken with the town administration about it.

Committee members noted a range of possible future projects for the building, including improvements to the front door, repair or replacement of floorboards in the voting room, and restoration of the wooden sign at the building's front. The minutes say a list of additional possible projects will be compiled and published at the next meeting.

Alice Kirkpatrick, who has done much of the gardening and planting around the building, volunteered to organize a gardening group as a subcommittee to oversee ongoing planting and weeding; she will begin by seeking additional volunteers. Jan Pieter said he would meet with the town administrator to clarify the duties of a person the town reportedly hired for extra repair work so the committee can avoid duplicating efforts.

Guest Bill Schmidt suggested assigning members specific tasks and creating a vice-chair role to cover absences; Jan Pieter said that proposal will be on the agenda at the next meeting. The minutes do not record formal approvals of repairs or any budget figures; planning and prioritization remain in the scoping stage.
