Atkinson council approves permits, licenses, hires and $260,967.55 in claims

The Atkinson City Council approved a series of routine consent items and claims at its Aug. 4 meeting, including event licenses, building and moving permits, personnel actions and a claims list totaling $260,967.55.

Event and liquor licenses: The council approved Special Designated Licenses for American Legion Farley-Tushla Post 86 for a Cornhole Tournament on Aug. 16 and for Knights of Columbus #4707 for a community street dance on Aug. 15 (alternate location Atkinson Community Center). Both motions passed on roll-call votes.

Permits: Building permits were approved for Atkinson Betterment Corporation (55' x 56' wood-frame house at 405 Paul Street), Ronald and Dee Ann Krysl (12' x 20' Versatube carport at 803 East State Street) and Atkinson Fertilizer, Inc. (32' x 44' office and 28' x 32' storage building at 706 North Bitney Avenue). The council also approved a tear-down permit for Atkinson Fertilizer, Inc. (20' x 20' building at 302 North Main Street) and a moving permit for Mike Vanderbeek to relocate a 12' x 20' garage to 206 South Hansen Street.

Personnel actions: The council approved hiring Daniel Dvorak full-time in the Utilities Department at $18.00/hour and hiring Jeremy Ogden for part-time mowing at $18.00/hour. It also approved a $2.00/hour wage increase for Gabby Wright after she passed her sewer certification test.

Finance: The delinquent utilities report of $1,319.78 was approved and the full claims listing attached to the minutes totaled $260,967.55. The agenda included an approval of the 2023–24 audit previously presented at the July 7 meeting.

All motions under these consent and business items were recorded as carried with roll-call votes of the members present.
