Foreman Spencer Cumley told the council on Oct. 27 that recent testing of the city’s wastewater meters showed a significant discrepancy: a portable test meter used by the vendor measured approximately 30,000–40,000 gallons per day less discharge than the installed meter’s readings. Cumley said the influent mag meter is difficult to validate because it is bolted near an elbow and that site geometry may affect accuracy.
Cumley recommended live testing by the vendor (GPM) when they calibrate meters and said an effluent meter replacement estimate is about $3,600; he will obtain quotes and consider whether the installed meters should be replaced with units that also record velocity. Council members were informed that the system remains state-compliant and that additional data will guide any replacement decisions.
