Skowhegan committee approves maintenance purchases and directs sexton to enter burials immediately

The committee voted to purchase eight 3x5 American flags for town cemeteries (not to exceed $300) and to buy signage for Larone and Pooler/East cemeteries (not to exceed $600). Both motions were moved and seconded and recorded as passing, with a yes 6, no 0, abstained 1 tally for each.
Committee members reported progress on a cemetery website and burial records inventory. Melvin Burnham and Gene Rouse reviewed burial lists from 2010–2025 and received a tutorial from Jason Fitch on entering names into the website; Melvin entered more than 270 names. The committee directed that the sexton enter each burial into the program at the time the burial occurs; Melvin moved and Kevin Nelson seconded that directive and it passed with the recorded vote yes 6, no 0, abstained 1.
The group also confirmed that the Town Clerk will follow up with the Selectboard to include cemetery responsibilities in the Town Clerk job description and that Kevin Nelson will verify the clerk's office computers are backed up to the cloud. The committee scheduled its next meeting for May 21, 2026 at 9:00 AM and adjourned at 10:47 AM.
