At its April 30 meeting the Town of Skowhegan Cemetery Committee reviewed competing quotes for surveying three town cemetery parcels and voted to award the work to Sackett & Brake.
Committee minutes list quotes from Boynton & Pickett and Sackett & Brake: total quotes for the three cemeteries were $11,000 and $7,900 respectively. Sackett & Brake noted it could not guarantee the requested completion date, but the committee voted to accept its quotes for Pooler, Old Bloomfield and Larone cemeteries in an amount not to exceed $7,900; funds were identified from the Cemetery Capital Reserve/Survey designation.
Kevin Nelson moved and Ann Spaulding seconded the motion to award the contract; the recorded vote was yes 6, no 0, abstained 1.
Separately the committee discussed title and boundary issues for North Cemetery and Malbons Mills. Gail Pelotte reported that she spoke with Davida Barter, who told the committee that the North Cemetery matter "has all been taken care of"; the committee asked Gail to obtain a written letter confirming the deed and pins for the North Cemetery map so it can be registered with the Registrar of Deeds. The committee also discussed Malbons Mills as an ongoing issue and said it would not authorize further payment to the surveyor until boundary pins and a completed survey were in place.
Melvin Burnham moved and Kevin Nelson seconded a request to the Selectboard for up to $500 to cover legal fees associated with North and Malbons Mills cemeteries; that motion was recorded as passing (yes 6, no 0, abstained 1).
