Town Manager Sara J. Liscomb told the Board of Selectmen on Feb. 9 that she had confirmed with legal counsel that the Budget Committee’s quorum is seven members of a 12-member committee.
The confirmation prompted discussion about whether the town should change the Budget Committee ordinance before members are elected at Town Meeting and how such a change would affect the committee’s ability to plan for the budget. The minutes record that there was “much discussion” about altering the ordinance prior to elections and about the committee’s plan for the current budget.
During the public comment period, S. Fortin asked that the Budget Committee be provided a line-by-line version of the budget for review. The minutes do not record a formal direction or vote to produce that document during the Feb. 9 session.
No ordinance change was recorded as a formal action in the minutes; the entry documents discussion only. The minutes also note that the board later entered an executive session on personnel matters under 1 M.R.S.A. § 405(6)(A).
