The sheriff reviewed jail food and meal counts in the same report, saying, "the month of May, we served 28,689 meals," and that juvenile facilities received "751 meals." He said the total food cost was "$42,115.52" and quoted a per-meal figure of "$1.43," while also noting another meal total recorded in the packet (29,440). The report contains both figures; the transcript does not reconcile them.
On drug enforcement, the sheriff presented the 17th Judicial Drug Task Force numbers for May: "18 investigations" and "approximately 33 defendants were identified or arrested or indicted," he said. He listed seized substances including marijuana, crystal meth, crack cocaine and "prescription pills which generally are fentanyl," according to his remarks.
A commissioner asked whether the department and jail were fully staffed. The sheriff replied that "in the jail we never are" fully staffed and that recruiting is ongoing; he said the sheriff's office is "pretty close" overall but short a small number of court officers.
The sheriff also provided courtroom security statistics: the office scanned or searched 4,127 people in May, handled 41 court sessions covering about 1,190 individual court cases, served criminal and civil warrants, and transported inmates to court.
