Commissioners debated whether the plaque should list city council members, the parks director and other elected officials; several said they preferred waiting to afford a higher-quality plaque rather than buying a cheap marker now.
The meeting also included a sustained exchange about AMP (a local funding commission) and whether AMP funds should be held in a separate account earmarked for events (for example, Freedom Fest) to improve accountability. AMP representatives and commissioners discussed past concerns about transparency — including small purchases like paintbrushes reportedly paid from AMP funds for a Boy Scout project — and agreed AMP would share its 2026 budget and periodic spend reports so the parks commission could better track use of those monies.
Staff updated the commission that they had been invited to present on a state inclusive-park grant (reported as roughly 98% complete) and that the fall festival had 83 vendors committed. Commissioners discussed weather contingencies for the Halloween trail and asked maintenance staff to clear drainage under a bridge and confirm signage and parking access.
Two commission term-renewal nominations (Brandon Tate and Bobby Price) were moved and seconded and will be forwarded to city council for confirmation. The commission adjourned after the final motions.
