Clerk Tammy Fliger outlined that the deputy position is typically part-time but said concentrated training over several months would be easier if the deputy were full-time. "I would like a temporary bump in my Deputy position to full time until the end of December and then move it back to part-time," she said, explaining the need for overlap, training and continuity. Commissioners discussed budget consequences and timing, including payroll and insurance implications; staff supplied rough budget numbers and anticipated the county could absorb the change for the remainder of the fiscal year.
A motion was made and seconded; the board called the vote and recorded unanimous approval. Commissioners asked staff to note the change in payroll budgets and to coordinate with the treasurer's office so pay and benefits are processed properly. The action is time-limited (July through December) and intended to provide structured on-the-job training without permanently expanding the county payroll footprint unless future decisions are made during regular budget cycles.
