Daniels County signs notice to proceed for Cold Creek Bridge replacement

Daniels County commissioners on Aug. 5 approved a notice to proceed and associated contract documents with Sentry Companies to replace the Cold Creek Bridge, authorizing the contractor to begin demolition the week of Aug. 5.

The board reviewed the contract documents, which the packet shows as a roughly $1.5 million base contract with additional items bringing the project close to $1.8 million when paired with earlier structure payments. Commissioners noted a concrete bridge deck item of about $179,000 in the contract and reminded the public that the county had already paid roughly $200,000 toward the bridge structure component. The contract package includes a notice of award, notice to proceed and the signed contract pages required for construction to start.

Commissioners asked about guardrail and approach work and confirmed the project includes bridge approaches and surfacing; the contract references crushed aggregate base and a concrete deck surfacing. Road Supervisor Michael Berson and staff said the contractor will begin demolition first and then advance to installation and surfacing. A timeline in the preconstruction documents mentioned installing the bridge by mid-October, subject to construction conditions.

A motion to sign the notice to proceed was made, seconded and carried unanimously. The board did not record a roll-call tally in the minutes; the meeting transcript captures verbal approval.

The board will monitor the preconstruction schedule and contract addenda. Road staff said they will coordinate approach and maintenance plans with the contractor and return with any significant changes to scope or cost.
