Rules Committee approves minutes, places items on Commission agenda and hears reports

The Bedford County Rules Committee approved routine administrative items and heard departmental updates during a short meeting that included votes to place items on the County Commission agenda and to adjourn.
The committee voted to approve the May 19, 2026 Rules and Legislative Committee meeting minutes and approved placing the June 9 County Commission minutes on the July 14 County Commission agenda "without a recommendation," after a motion and voice vote. At the request of Donald Thomas the committee also voted to place notary applicants on the July 14 County Commission agenda.
The veterans report showed 61 veterans visited the veterans office in May and 67 veterans were transported to VA hospitals; Director Ealy said there were no additional updates. The community clinic reported 75 medical patients and 88 dental patients seen in May; the committee had no questions and took no further action on that report.
A committee member said the county has moved the broadband project forward to the bidding phase and that equipment is out for bids. "Hopefully we will receive those bids and hopefully we'll be able to start bringing the equipment that we had discussed 6 months ago into fruition," the member said.
Mr. Anderson told the committee the Ag Board will likely hold a special-call meeting before the fair and plans to use fund balance to make a sizable donation for Ag Center upgrades in support of the fair. Committee members confirmed fair dates (reported to begin the 13th) and agreed to move a board meeting to avoid conflicts.
Members confirmed that budget study meetings will be held June 23 at 5:00 p.m., immediately after the finance meeting in the same room on Dover Street, and were urged to bring budget books and contact Robert Daniel with questions. The time capsule committee deadline for submissions was reported as Monday, June 22 at 4:00 p.m.
A motion to adjourn was made and agreed to, closing the meeting.
