The Sandy River Plantation Board of Assessors on June 3 approved and executed the warrant for the Annual Town Meeting scheduled for June 21, 2025 at 10 a.m., signed key disbursement warrants, declined to appoint a replacement for a vacated RSU #78 seat and handled several routine administrative matters, including a driveway permit and a grant application.
Warrant 72 had been reviewed and signed off-week, and warrants 73 and 74 were reviewed and signed during the meeting. The Board reviewed the draft Annual Town Meeting warrant and voted to approve and execute it for official posting ahead of the June 21 meeting.
On the RSU #78 vacancy (the seat vacated by Robert Green and expiring in June 2026), the Board discussed its authority to appoint a replacement but chose not to proceed with an appointment. Instead, the Board directed that interested individuals may present themselves at the Annual Town Meeting on June 21, 2025, where the position may be filled by election.
The Board reviewed a driveway entrance permit application for a driveway off an unnamed road in the Thunderbolt LLC subdivision (a fork off Red Moose Lane) and authorized the permit. The parcel owner proposed naming the road "Underwood Court;" Assessor Joanne Taylor suggested considering an animal-themed name to align with nearby roads such as Red Moose Lane, Ermine and Bobcat Circle. The Clerk was directed to review town records for existing road-naming guidance; if none exists the Board will implement a new policy assigning naming responsibility to the Board of Assessors and requiring a naming request form.
The Clerk circulated the finalized Annual Report (compiled with assistance from local organizations and the Deputy Treasurer) and reminded the Board the report must be available at least three days prior to the Annual Town Meeting. The Clerk also reported that fireworks permit signs have been posted at each entry point into Sandy River Plantation and that the bank had notified the town of an interest-rate change; Assessor Taylor asked the Clerk to inquire whether the bank could match higher online rates.
The Clerk presented the Solid Waste Diversion Grant application paperwork for signature; First Assessor Steve Carr signed the documents to enable the town to submit the second-round application. The meeting concluded with confirmation of the next regular BOA meeting for Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at 3:30 PM and adjournment at 5:05 p.m.
Next steps: documents will be posted for the Annual Town Meeting and the Clerk will follow up on road-naming records, bank-rate inquiries and posting the Annual Report.
