Select Board backs $60,000 police truck warrant article, weighs vehicle options for summer recreation; approves two tournament donations

The Board agreed to support adding the article provided the vehicle is outfitted to tow the recreation trailer during the summer.
Recreation Director Alison Thayer described shortages in reliable vehicles and towing capacity for summer programming and said renting vans and hiring additional drivers was straining her budget. Board members discussed using All Points Transportation (two 11-passenger vans with towing capability available at $80/hr) or pursuing a vehicle-sharing partnership with the local school district; the board suggested adding another $5,000 to the recreation program budget on the June warrant.
On sponsorship requests, Karen Campbell moved to approve purchasing a $250 hole in the Ski Club tournament and sponsoring a $900 team in the Maine Health tournament; Lloyd Cuttler seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Corbin said he would ask the Ski Club to fold the $250 request into its larger annual donation request to streamline town handling of the charity's requests.
Next steps: the $60,000 police vehicle article and the suggested $5,000 addition to the recreation budget will appear on the June 16 warrant for voter consideration.
