The Carrabassett Valley Select Board voted to post an ad for a full‑time, five‑day‑a‑week, 40‑hour town office position after hearing from Town Manager Garrett Corbin and Town Clerk Wendy Russell that increasing workload, a long learning curve for office work and persistent overtime justify a full‑time hire. Corbin said a full‑time role is more likely to attract qualified candidates and described it as a “quality job” that could be career‑worthy.
Jay Reynolds moved and Karen Campbell seconded a motion to write up the job ad and post it; the motion passed unanimously. Corbin asked that the position be posted soon—ideally before the end of ski season—to reach the largest candidate pool.
The board discussed other staffing items: the CV Public Library requested funding to ensure two people are present during some open hours (part or all of Friday and all of Saturday) for customer service; the board requested usage data before deciding. Corbin proposed pursuing grant funding to fully fund a new full‑time firefighter—similar to arrangements in Kingfield and Stratton—and suggested a firefighter might perform sprinkler testing now contracted out, potentially saving thousands annually; the Select Board requested additional detail from the Fire Chief before taking action.
Board members also discussed consolidating custodial duties into a full‑time position covering the AGC, Community Center/CVPL and the Outdoor Center after combined custodial expenses were estimated at about $40,000. Recreation Director Alison Thayer said light cleaning is covered but deep cleaning is difficult to schedule.
Outdoor Center staffing was described as budgeted for pay up to $25 per hour for eight‑hour shifts Friday through Sunday from June through October; the Outdoor Center will be open seven days a week with mornings unlocked and evenings locked. The board additionally agreed to publish the Comprehensive Plan as approved at Town Meeting without incorporating minor technical comments from the State. The meeting concluded with an executive session under 1 MRSA §405(6)(E); the board recorded no votes or decisions from that session.
Warrants signed earlier in the meeting included Payroll No. 11 for $42,138.31 and Expenditure No. 12 for $167,697.40.
