Select Board signs FOIA request seeking GSA data on Coburn Gore border project traffic

The Carrabassett Valley Select Board voted unanimously to sign a Freedom of Information Act request asking the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) to produce the data supporting GSA’s determination that modernizing the Coburn Gore Land Port of Entry would not increase traffic along Route 27.
Local attorney Steve Arner, who drafted the FOIA letter, said the GSA consistently stated in public hearings and writing that “(t)here is no expectation that modernizing the LPOE would lead to an increase in traffic,” and added, “We are not aware of any discussion of any data or other support for that conclusion.” Board members said traffic impacts raise safety concerns and concurred the FOIA request was a valid step even if it might not yield results.
Jay Reynolds moved that the Select Board sign the FOIA letter to the GSA requesting the underlying data; Karen Campbell seconded and the motion passed unanimously (5–0). The board did not attach conditions to the signature and asked staff to file the request.
