At its June 28 meeting, the Village of Northfield council unanimously adopted four emergency resolutions that authorize a set of immediate contracts and an appointment, council records show.
The measures approved were: Resolution No. 2023-25, authorizing the mayor to contract for the village's insurance policies through Wichert Insurance Agency with carriers Selective, Hanover, Cincinnati and Hudson; Resolution No. 2023-26, authorizing a contract with Kimble Recycling & Disposal, Inc. for residential rubbish collection and villagewide recycling; Resolution No. 2023-27, approving a petition and plan for special energy improvement assessments in cooperation with the Akron-Summit County Energy Special Improvement District; and Resolution No. 2023-28, confirming the mayor's appointment of Daniel Spoto as a part-time firefighter/paramedic.
The council suspended the three-reading rule for each resolution before voting to adopt. Motions to suspend and to adopt were made by councilmembers listed in the record: for the insurance resolution, Councilperson Gary Vojtush moved and Councilperson Alan Hipps seconded; for the Kimble contract, Councilperson Renell Noack moved and Councilperson Gary Vojtush seconded; for the energy assessment petition, Noack moved to suspend and Hipps seconded, and Hipps moved to adopt with Kevin Lewis seconding; for the firefighter appointment, Vojtush moved and Hipps seconded. Roll-call votes recorded in the minutes show unanimous recorded support among the five councilmembers present for each final adoption (Ferko, Noack, Vojtush, Hipps, Lewis).
