He said one quote was for $878,241 and that the city’s local match would be 5 percent, which the department can cover from non‑reverting equipment funds.
Jones said two other quotes for comparable units (Pierce models) exceeded $1 million each, and that vendors warned prices can change multiple times annually. The chief asked the board for permission to submit the AFG application; the motion to approve was seconded and carried unanimously.
In discussing procurement, Jones said the department had sought feedback about a lower-cost make that the city does not currently operate and had received mixed advice; the board did not decide a manufacturer on June 15. No award or purchase contract was executed at the meeting — the board only authorized staff to pursue the grant application.
Next steps: staff will submit the AFG application and, if awarded, return to the board to approve final vendor selection and contract terms.
